What does Step 2 do?
Then by acknowledging that, you need something free that they can give, you are basically giving them back their superpower. They will start to feel like they have authority over you. Biochemically in their brain, it is going trigger some kind of proud feeling chemicals.
Do we even need Step 3?
Yes, you need it. Everyone has some kind of boss or authority figure that they are fearful of. Even after Step 2, the person feels powerful, within a very short time, reality will trigger in their mind and they will not be feeling so powerful. In Step 3, You are basically saying you do care for their possible worry. And it is fine and you will understand if they cannot give you what you are asking for .
In summary, Step1 & 2 give the feeling of extremities. Step 3 loosens things up in front of their reality and then they will work based on empathy.
